Startin’ Over

Over 10 years ago I was working with Roshen Kaye as vocalist on some of my other tracks and I asked her if she had written any songs herself – so she gave me just the lyrics to this, no tune, no music, no ideas at all for how it might sound…

I played around with it for a few days and came up with this music for it!

An interesting approach for me, taking someone else’s lyrics and sentiment then turning that into a tune and a complete musical production. Written with a whimsical, retrospective feel that gives the song a dreamy, meandering, laid back ambience.

The emotion for this song comes from where her father moved to England from India decades ago, pursuing his dream to settle here, building his business and navigating the various challenges put in front of him. I’ve met him, he’s a great guy!

This production as you hear it now is quite rough and we never got round to sorting it properly which is a shame. I’m in the process of locating the original midi and audio files to have a go at improving it, so watch this space…

There is scope for somebody to record this song properly, I think it actually has very good potential and just might be the best music I’ve created!
